Thanks, Dan! It's funny how sometimes you don't even realize how change is happening until you sit down to write about it. That was definitely the case for this post - I wasn't able to articulate the connections until after they showed up on paper. It will be interesting to see how life changes, but also when it becomes clear that it already has.

Hi Abby!

Thanks so much for your generosity! And yes, wow, you hit the nail on the head about the creator/nurturer role in entrepreneurship. It's sometimes easy to stereotype ambitious women as being solely focused "on their careers" to the exclusion of other important things, but when you frame business ownership as you have, it's so clear that choosing this path is not a selfish act at all. At the moment I'm not parenting a child, but I'm definitely giving everything I have to something else that needs me to grow. =)

Great article Jess.

I especially like that you talk about how your two lives compliment each other and the skills you develop in one benefits the other. It'll be interesting to see how that evolves as you move forward.

Hey, Jess --

This is a beautiful post! I love your comparison of being a VA to being a doula. Entrepreneurship is a life-giving process that transforms the entrepreneur herself and the way she sees the world and her role in it -- forever! {I'm not a mother either and can also relate to your ambivalence.} I'm more than satisfied right now with the creator/nurturer role my business affords me.

This was my favorite takeaway from this piece:

"Both types of conversations are about nurturing something you love into fruition, and strategizing like hell to make the process transformative and empowering. Both conversations require a commitment to stress reduction and taking good care of oneself."

Thank you for a lovely and thought-deepening post. And for letting us in on another aspect of your "double life." Going to reTweet right now!
